Spogga, whose brother William A. "Hash" Hashway died of cancer at 51 a short
time ago, advised in a statement that, "Cancer affects an entire family,
and not a single day goes by that I don't think about how things might have
been different for my family. This event is clearly non-commercial and from
the heart of these people who organized it. I am proud to be play this event
and humbled by the kind spirits of the people who truly care enough to selflessly
put events like this on."
The event began when Christina Elfar a 24 year old make-up artist, hairdresser
was moved to action by a cancer diagnosis in her own family. She was going
to cut hair on one day and donate the proceeds to the American Cancer Society.
When word got out about what she was planning, people began to offer their
time, talent, services, products, refreshments and more until her tiny "haircuts
for cancer" project suddenly grew into a 'Festival Carnival and Concert Event."
American Cancer Society staff will be on hand, and have sanctioned this as
part of their Relay for Life campaign.
A philanthropist (who wishes to remain unknown) will match all monies raised
dollar for dollar up to $25,000."
Rain date is August 3rd.
