Good Samaritan from Warwick Bar saves Stabbing Victim

(Warwick, Rhode Island, USA) A man suffering from a knife wound in his back staggered down Warwick Avenue and collapsed in the parking lot of Eddies 529 Club around 9:30 Saturday Night, only to be discovered and saved by a local good samaritan.

The victim is recuperating in an area hospital instead of sitting in a morgue thanks to the quick work of his rescuer, Craig Arruda. Arruda, a regular at Eddies 529 for years had gone outside for a smoke when he saw the crumpled victim in a pool of blood at the edge of the parking lot.

Arruda immediately applied direct pressure to the wound and called for help. "I really didn't think about it, I just did it" he said in an interview. "I didn't think about anything else, I just did what anyone else here would have done."

"I had never seen the victim before tonight," advised Bonnie Donahue, owner of Eddies 529.  "He came in much earlier with a friend and left. They were last seen walking up Warwick Avenue and that was some time before Craig found him."

"This family owned bar has been here for 32 years.  My Dad ran it before me," she added. Craig is one of us. He's our kind of person. We're all friends here and this is the kind of people we are at Eddies 529." "We want people to know that the real story is about a good samaritan, one of our own from right here in Warwick that we can be proud of" she said.

The story was reported at first by four local TV news stations as a stabbing in a fight at the bar. One local reporter explained that the misconception about the incident was that Police told them there had been a stabbing at the bar and not much else. When the media arrived the area was cordoned off with police cars, crime scene tape and the forensic people were on hand. "We report what we know" he said.

Police have not identified the man who is recuperating in an area hospital. The suspect is still at large.
